Detect Almost Any Object Up To 400mm Away, With No Reflector Needed
The EMAS SPM18DP4DC2 is an M18 diffuse-reflection photoelectric sensor: it emits light and switches when an object reflects it back, so it detects boxes, bottles, plastics, wood and metal up to 400mm away without a separate reflector or receiver. The PNP output offers both NO and NC switching on a 4-core cable, an LED shows output status, and the 2ms response time keeps up with fast conveyors.

What does diffuse reflection mean?
The emitter and receiver are in the same body, and the sensor switches when light bounces back off the object itself. You only mount and wire one device, with no reflector or separate receiver to align.
Will it detect dark or shiny objects?
Yes, but the 400mm rating is a maximum. Dark, matt or angled surfaces reflect less light and are detected at a shorter range, so allow a margin and test with your actual product.
How is the output wired?
It has a PNP (sourcing) output with both NO and NC switching on a 4-core cable, so it suits standard sourcing PLC inputs and you can choose light-on or dark-on operation in the wiring. For sinking (NPN) inputs EMAS make the SPM18DP4EC2.
Where can it be installed?
The body is rated IP65 and works from -5°C to +55°C, which suits most indoor production and packaging areas. It is supplied with a fixed 2m cable; mounting nuts and brackets should be checked against the technical drawing.
