Temperature, Humidity, Level and Pressure Sensors For Common Industrial Applications

We offer a choice of sensors for making common industrial measurements such as temperature, level and pressure.

These products can be connected to control systems to form a closed loop process. As well as our range of Novus controllers, they are also compatible with PLCs that have the relevant analogue input type. 

Sometimes the requirement is simply for measurement or indication. Where the operator is looking for a Digital readout to monitor. Products such as our N20K48 or N1540 can be used in conjunction with our sensors to display process values. An important feature when selecting a display for this purpose is a 'Universal Input'.

Choosing A Suitable Temperature Sensor For Digital And PID Control

The choice of temperature sensor depends on a number of factors, the most significant being operating range. Other considerations include the operating environment and accuracy required.

For temperatures between -20 and 100 degrees Celsius an NTC sensor is often the simplest and most cost effective choice. NTC sensors can be found on many refrigeration, HVAC and heating systems. Comprising just two cable cores, they are easy to install and offer good accuracy.

At higher temperatures, to around 500 degrees Celsius, a PT100 sensor offers industrial level performance. We normally recommend a three wire type which allows for compensation of cable length. PT100 sensors are used in factory automation and process control. They can also be used in low temperature ovens.

Beyond 500 degrees Celsius a thermocouple provides high tolerance to heat. With readings above 1000 degrees C possible. There are many different types of thermocouple, we find Type J and Type K to be the most common for general purpose. They are used in ovens and kilns of all types. Care must be taken when terminating and extending thermocouple cables to ensure all components are correctly matched.
