The N1040 combines the simplicity of the N1030 PID controller line with added functions — USB connection, 2 alarms, soft start, loop break detection, and a faster input sample rate — making it a fast, simple-to-set-up, robust controller well suited to process equipment, machinery and OEM builds, and catering equipment. The USB connection can also be used for parameter setup, so multiple devices can be programmed quickly.

The microprocessor-based N1040 was designed for low-cost applications while still achieving a high degree of accuracy. It features a short-depth enclosure of only 70 mm, reducing panel space considerably. Another important feature is the exclusive removable wiring connection block, which simplifies installation.

It accepts Pt100 RTDs and thermocouples types J, K and T, and features two outputs for control and alarm, universal power supply, and automatic tuning of the PID parameters. The N1040 is a cost-effective temperature controller that still keeps high performance standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the N1040 differ from the base N1030?
It adds USB configuration, 2 alarm outputs instead of 1, soft start, Loop Break Detection, and a faster input sample rate — while keeping the same 1/16 DIN footprint.

Can I configure multiple units quickly?
Yes — the USB connection is designed for fast parameter setup, so multiple N1040 units can be programmed in sequence via PC.

What does Loop Break Detection (LBD) do?
It monitors the control loop and flags a fault if the process doesn't respond as expected to the control output — useful for catching failed heaters or disconnected sensors early.

Industry Applications

  • Process Equipment — dual alarm outputs and LBD add a safety layer over basic PID control.
  • OEM Machinery — short 70mm depth suits shallow enclosures.
  • Multi-Unit Installations — USB configuration speeds up commissioning across several controllers.
