Why Use Miniature Relays?

Miniature relays also known as plug in or power relays are very popular in automation and control applications. They incorporate the principle function of a relay: controlling a larger load with a small current often at a lower voltage. Beyond this they also help engineers to develop control systems which may require the following:

Latching Circuits - requiring more than one set of contacts to hold the coil
Electrical Isolation - protecting PLC outputs by isolating larger loads
Auxiliary Functions - multiple poles allow for secondary functions like indication
Changeover Contacts - normally open and closed switching offers greater versatility
Redundancy / Expansion - spare contacts can be utilised later
Maintenance - plug in relays can be replaced quickly in the field
Faultfinding - transparent cases help visual inspection, mechanical test buttons speed up diagnosis
