Snap Action 1NO+1NC BS Series Button Switch
The BS1012 gives you both a normally-open and normally-closed contact in one button-plunger switch, so you can wire it either way — or both — depending on whether your circuit needs to make or break on activation. That changeover flexibility makes it a more adaptable choice than the single-contact BS1011 for door, cover, and lid interlocking, and like the rest of the BS range it's held in UK stock at a fraction of an OEM spare's cost.
A quality switch suitable for many applications:
- Catering equipment - safety switch
- Household appliances - door switch
- Machinery OEM - end stop, positional limit
- Stairlift - limit switch
Often used on doors, covers and lids inside equipment.
Selecting the Normally Closed + Normally Open model gives greater flexibility for installation. Changeover contact permits changes in wiring configuration to suit different applications.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the advantage of 1NO+1NC over the single-contact BS1011?
It gives you a changeover contact, so you can wire either the make (N.O.) or break (N.C.) side to suit your circuit, or use both simultaneously — for example, one contact driving a status signal while the other handles the safety interlock.
Why is it rated both 6A and 16A?
6A is the standard AC15 inductive load rating; 16A applies to purely resistive loads. Check which load type your circuit switches — inductive loads (motors, solenoids) need the lower 6A figure.
Is this suitable for washdown areas?
It's IP40 rated (protected against solid objects and limited dust, not water jets), so it's better suited to internal equipment mounting than direct washdown exposure.
Can I use this as a door interlock on machinery?
Yes — the button-plunger snap action design is commonly used for door, cover, and lid interlocking across catering and OEM machinery applications.
Industry Applications
- Catering equipment — lid and cover safety interlocking with flexible contact wiring
- Household & commercial appliances — door switch detection with status signalling option
- Machinery OEM & stairlifts — positional limit and end-stop detection needing changeover flexibility
