Saving Energy With Basic Automation Upgrades

Background

Many businesses are looking at ways to lower their energy costs in production areas. Capital projects require significant funding and involve long timescales. We are able to offer some simple improvements that can yield real results quickly.

Resistive loads in the form of electric heating and inductive loads in the form of motors are common in many factory environments. They are often responsible for a significant portion of the electricity consumed.

Switch heater controls to Novus Automation PID

With our Novus Automation range you can ensure accurate delivery of energy. With a modern controller such as our N20K48 you can also control the process remotely via a choice of different communication options including RS485, WiFi and RS485.

Accurately tuned PID control reduces overheating = typical energy savings of 10-20%

Replace fixed speed, direct online motors with Ageon AG Drives

Many older three phase motors controlled by contactors operate at fixed speeds. This is inefficient both on startup and during normal running. Incorporating a variable frequency drive can consume less electricity during both phases. Particularly when you consider the possibility to operate the motor automatically/on demand and at reduced speeds.

Variable speed drive = possible energy savings of 20-50%

Upgrade motor speed potentiometers to EMAS HPMR

In a busy production environment it is very easy to run motors beyond the required speed. With a basic potentiometer it can be difficult to ensure the same speed setting is applied, small dials can be hard to read! The EMAS HPMR potentiometers output a very accurate 0-10V signal. Digital feedback in the form of the built in LCD allows for precise motor output. Operators can be in no doubt as to the correct setpoint.

Recycling of heat with Differential Temperature Control

Many processes generate heat as a by-product. This heat is often exhausted to atmosphere. Consider the possibility of redirecting this heat to other areas. Perhaps it can be used in a separate drying process or to lift the temperature in other parts of a building. Our differential temperature controllers are simple to integrate with valves, pumps and fans.
