Long-Range Object Detection Up To 7m, Switching Mains or DC Loads Directly
The EMAS SPQ50RP2CC2 is a 50mm square retro-reflective photoelectric sensor. It sends a beam to a reflector mounted opposite and switches when an object breaks the beam, giving reliable detection across conveyors, doorways and gaps up to 7m wide. A universal 24-240V AC/DC supply and a built-in relay output (3A at 250V AC resistive) mean it can run from almost any control voltage and switch a contactor, lamp or PLC input without a separate interface relay. An LED shows the output state.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does a retro-reflective sensor work?
The emitter and receiver are in the same body. The beam travels to a reflector fixed opposite and back again; when an object breaks the beam the output switches. You wire only one device, and the passive reflector needs no power or cabling.
Which reflector do I need?
EMAS make two to suit the SPQ series: the compact SPQREF1 40x60mm reflector and the larger SPQREF2 100x100mm reflector. The larger reflector returns more light, which makes alignment easier and helps over longer distances.
Can the relay switch a mains load directly?
Yes. The relay contact is rated 3A at 250V AC (resistive), so it can switch a contactor coil, small lamp, beacon or PLC input directly. For motors or other inductive or high-current loads, switch a contactor rather than the load itself.
Can it be used outdoors or in wet areas?
No. The body is rated IP50, so it is protected against dust but not water. It suits dry indoor areas such as warehouses, conveyors and machine guarding from -20°C to +65°C. For splash-prone areas choose an IP65 sensor.
Industry Applications
- Conveyor and pallet detection - presence, counting and end-of-line sensing across wide conveyors
- Doors, gates and shutters - detecting vehicles or people across an opening up to 7m wide
- Cranes and hoists - beam-break detection for travel limits and obstruction sensing
Prefer a plug-in connection? The EMAS SPQ50RP2CSX is the same sensor with an M12 connector. To signal machine status, pair it with the EMAS IF5T024XM05-1 24V LED light tower. For mechanical end-of-travel sensing, see the EMAS L61K13MEM121 IP67 roller limit switch.
